Batt. charger mishap - flaw and repair

1'st Post! this is the format I prefer for techs.
single consumer complaints wellcome anytime

Product:
Ship n Shore automatic 12v charger
I belive from Walmart

Failure:
Dad towed the boat off with batt. charger
still hooked up power cord ripped out the back.

Design Flaw:
No cord restraint OR even a strain relief
wich are normally incorporated in a single
molded unit, also, wires thankfully, were
NOT soldered to the Xformer, Now this
could have been good or bad since Dad
only uses brand new tight cords. a solder connection
may have ripped the terminals off the Xformer
rendering the unit unrepairable!

Fix:
Simple, 4 screws,
TIED A KNOT FIRST! plugged the spade lugs
back in, Reassembled, elapsed time 5 Minutes!
$30  Unit saved, dad was ready to pitch it...

plenty more, Please Post or comment

  1. Designed-To-Fail!
Most people are stupid enough to go right back to the same store and buy the same product after a failure like you described. Manufacturers intentionally produce crappy products because they depend upon consumers just replacing it.
Replacing crap with more crap is bad for the environment, and it's also bad for companies that produce a well-designed product at a slightly higher price.
